Applying for a Licence

Assuming eligibility (please see the Guidelines for Hosting Organisations document) the process for acquiring either a Sponsored or a Proxy Connection licence is outlined below.  Note that JANET(UK) will only accept applications from the recognised computing services or equivalent department within the hosting organisation.

Completing the Application Form

The representative of the hosting organisation completes and signs an application form for the appropriate licence and returns it to JANET Service Desk.

Issuing the Licence

On receipt of the completed form JANET Customer Service will issue a licence, followed by an invoice for the first payment.  The letter will specify the commencement date for the licence and the licence fee for the remainder of the first year.  In order to minimise costs (and hence to keep the licence charge down) the renewal date for the licence will be 1st August following the commencement date.  This means that the first payment may be for a part year.  When this happens, the charge is calculated pro rata on the annual cost.

A commencement date in the future may be specified on the application if the licence is being obtained in advance of the connection being made.
