JANET(UK) Staff

The Senior Management Team is responsible for delivering the strategic development of the JANET network, whilst ensuring that the day to day operations consistently meet the high standards demanded by our customers. Bringing with them a breadth of experience and skills from both the public and commercial sectors, the team is committed to ensuring that JANET remains at the forefront of research and education networking.

Chief Executive:

Tim Marshall

Tim became CEO in 2005. He is responsible to the Chairman and the Board of Management for leading innovative strategic development of the UK’s education, learning and research network, so increasing participation and excellence to the highest levels. Tim leads the senior management team who collectively manage the divisional structure of the company.

Finance Director:

Paul Branston

Paul became Director of Finance in January 1998, after acting as Head of Finance in a consultancy capacity during 1997. He is responsible to the Chief Executive and the Board of Management for financial management, accounting and reporting and the maintenance of internal controls. He also acts as Company Secretary and has functional responsibility for personnel and internal IT matters.

Chief Technology Officer:

Dr Bob Day

Bob is responsible for many of the architectural and policy developments within JANET. Particular interests have been the development of acceptable use, connection and charging policies, and of the roles of Regional Networks as both customer and service provider within the overall JANET model.

Operations Director:

Tim Kidd

Tim is the JANET(UK) Operations Director, with responsibilities for operational services relating to the JANET backbone, for various value added services and for computer emergency response through the JANET CSIRT.

Head of Customer Engagement:

Shirley Wood

Shirley is JANET(UK)'s Head of Customer Engagement. Her particular responsibilities cover JANET Technical Administration Group including domain names under ac.uk, sponsored connections and ip addressing, communication services including documentation and the web services, workshops, training, liaison with both current and potential users of JANET and public relations including dealing with the media.

Head of Strategic Technologies:

Jeremy Sharp

Jeremy is JANET(UK)'s Head of Strategic Technologies. His responsibilities cover the strategic development of the JANET network and the management of a technical programme that identifies emerging technologies and then develops production services.

Head, Strategy Business:

Dan Perry

Reporting to the CEO he is responsible for supporting the development of the company’s business strategy which will ensure that the JANET network and service provision continues to be sustainable, appropriate and fit to meet the needs of the network’s developing stakeholder and user bases.
